Before You Start

Keep these 3 details ready

IP address

Username

Password

These details come in your delivery email and are inside your NeedRDP dashboard.

Quick Answer

How do you connect to RDP?

Open your RDP client (Remote Desktop Connection on Windows, or Microsoft Remote Desktop / Windows App on Mac and mobile), enter your IP address, then type your username and password. Accept the certificate prompt and your Windows desktop opens up.

Below is a screenshot-friendly walkthrough for every popular device.

Prerequisites

What you need before connecting

When your NeedRDP order is delivered, you receive three details: IP address, username, and password. You can find these in two places:

Option 1

Your delivery email

Sent automatically to the email you used while ordering.

Option 2

Your NeedRDP dashboard

Log in and open the active service to view login details anytime.

Open dashboard

Here's what each detail means:

IP address

The unique address of your remote desktop server, for example 154.62.45.10. Sent to you via email and also available in your NeedRDP dashboard.

Username

Usually 'Administrator' or a custom name. You'll find it in your delivery email and inside your NeedRDP dashboard. Case-sensitive.

Password

The strong password we generate for you. Available in your delivery email and your NeedRDP dashboard. Copy it carefully — it is case-sensitive.

Pro tip: Keep your delivery email or dashboard open in another tab and copy-paste each value. Manual typing causes most failed logins.

Got all three details? Pick your device below and follow the steps.

Windows

Connect on Windows 10 / 11

Windows already has Remote Desktop Connection (mstsc) installed. No download needed — it's the fastest and most reliable way to connect.

App: Remote Desktop Connection (built-in)
  1. 1

    Open Remote Desktop Connection

Press Win + R on your keyboard, type mstsc and press Enter. You can also search for 'Remote Desktop Connection' from the Start menu.

On Windows 11, this app is also called 'Remote Desktop Connection (RDC)'.

    Enter your IP address

In the 'Computer' field, type the IP address from your delivery email or NeedRDP dashboard.

    Example: 154.62.45.10

    Click 'Show Options' (optional)

Expand options to pre-fill the username, save the connection as an .rdp file, or enable local resources like clipboard and drives.

  4. 4

Click Connect, then enter username & password

When prompted, type the username and password from your delivery email. Tick 'Remember me' only on your private computer.

  5. 5

    Accept the certificate prompt

On the first connection you'll see a certificate warning. If the server address matches your details, click 'Yes' to continue.

  6. 6

    Welcome to your remote desktop

You'll see the Windows desktop. You can now install software, open browsers, and use it like a regular PC.

Troubleshooting

Common RDP connection problems

Most failed connections are caused by one of these. Try these fixes before contacting support.

Connection timeout / can't reach host

Check your internet, confirm the IP address is typed correctly, and try once more from another network (for example a mobile hotspot).

Wrong username or password

Both fields are case-sensitive. Copy carefully and watch for trailing spaces. Avoid typing — paste directly from the email.

Certificate warning

Normal on the first connection. Continue only if the IP address matches your delivery email or dashboard.

Black screen after login

Wait 30–60 seconds for the desktop to load. If still blank, disconnect and reconnect, or contact support.

Login keeps looping back

Usually a wrong password or expired account. Re-check credentials, or ask support to verify your account status.

Slow or laggy connection

Lower the resolution and color depth in your RDP client, and disable visual effects on the remote PC.

Safe Access

Connect safely every time

Never share your RDP IP, username or password in public posts or screenshots.
Sign out from the Start menu when work is done — don't just close the window.
Avoid saving passwords on shared, public, or borrowed computers.
Use a strong password and change it every few months.
Open a support ticket if you see repeated failed login attempts.

Next Step

Connected? Make it lightning-fast.

Reduce CPU/GPU load and remove lag with one quick Visual Effects tweak — instantly smoother RDP.
